Meet Kym! MA, LPCC

Hi, I’m Kym! I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate and longtime school counselor, and I know that life rarely follows a straight line.
I was once a high school dropout and a teen mom who had to rewrite her own story. I’ve also rebuilt my life after domestic violence, I understand how layered and nonlinear healing can be. Those experiences, alongside more than 20 years working inside schools, shape the way I show up in the therapy room. I understand what it feels like to be underestimated, overwhelmed, or unsure how to begin. I specialize in LGBTQIA2+ affirming care, school-related stress, trauma, and domestic violence recovery.
Outside of therapy, I’m still a ballet dancer at heart. I believe in commitment, resilience, and the quiet strength it takes to keep showing up. I’m also a proud indoor human, usually found with one of my two cats nearby or blending herbs in my apothecary, creating small rituals that remind me healing can be both practical and sacred.
My approach is relational and trauma-informed, grounded in unconditional positive regard. I integrate somatic and experiential work with practical tools from CBT and DBT (because insight matters, but so does having something concrete to hold onto when things feel hard). We might explore how stress lives in your body, gently challenge thought patterns that no longer serve you, or practice new ways of responding in moments that used to feel impossible. Therapy with me is active, collaborative, and rooted in the belief that you already carry more strength than you think.
In virtual sessions, you can expect a steady, grounded presence and a space that feels structured but relaxed. You can show up in a hoodie, from your parked car, or with a cat in your lap. I’ll ask thoughtful questions, offer reflections, and when it’s helpful, be lovingly direct.
We’ll move at your pace, building something steady and meaningful from wherever you’re starting.
You don’t have to have it all figured out…you just have to come as you are!

“Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everyone I’ve ever known.”
– Chuck Palahniuk, Invisible Monsters
Most of what makes me who I am is credited to the wonderful people I call family, both blood and chosen. Taught to work hard, walk away when necessary, and to take care of others, my sisters and I learned from our upbringing in Ohio that community is important. Life taught me that community is healing.
The world continues to make me who I am, and that started with traveling adventures. Experiencing places away from home broadened my perspective and led to a deep understanding of people from all walks of life. It introduced me to a whole lot of the fun and a few passions that I believe everyone should find too.
I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do as a career with the many things I was interested in, but I knew one thing: people. I already loved people, and connecting with them was something I did, a lot. Someone once said that I could talk to a tree and it would talk back. (I hope that was a compliment…) So a career where I could talk to people AND live different lives every day? Become a therapist! Through the therapy journey, I found leadership as a bigger way on a bigger scale to do what I love.
And life is usually better with a dog.
